Invisalign (Clear Aligners)
Orthodontics

Invisalign is a system of clear, removable aligners that move the teeth in small, digitally planned steps. Because no wires or brackets are used, it is hard to notice in everyday life. At our clinic, clear aligner treatments are planned together with our clinic's orthodontics specialist and carried through with regular check-ups.

What is Invisalign (clear aligner) treatment?

In clear aligner treatment, a digital impression of the teeth is taken and the tooth movements from the start of treatment to the end are planned step by step on a computer. Based on this plan, a series of clear aligners is produced, each of which moves the teeth a little further.

The aligners are replaced with the next in the series at set intervals, so the teeth are moved gradually into their target positions. In some cases, small tooth-colored attachments are added to the tooth surfaces to improve the grip of the aligners.

Who is it suitable for?

Clear aligners are an effective option for mild to moderate crowding, gaps between the teeth and certain bite problems. Because of their discreet appearance, they are particularly popular with adults and socially active teenagers; there are also aligner options designed specifically for teenagers who are still growing.

That said, not every case is suitable for clear aligners; for some complex tooth movements, braces deliver a more predictable result. Suitability is assessed by the orthodontics specialist after the examination and digital records.

Wearing clear aligners day to day

For the aligners to work, the general recommendation is to wear them for around 20-22 hours a day, removing them only for meals and hot drinks. Sticking to the wear time is the single most important factor in treatment progressing as planned.

While the aligners are in, nothing but water should be consumed; after meals, the teeth should be brushed before the aligners go back in clean. The aligners are cleaned with lukewarm water and a soft brush; hot water is not used, as it can distort their shape.

How clear aligners differ from braces

The standout advantages of clear aligners are their barely noticeable appearance, the ease of maintaining oral hygiene because they can be removed, and the minimal restrictions on eating. In return, success depends on wearing the aligners with discipline for the recommended hours; in this respect, the patient's cooperation is more decisive than with braces.

Braces, on the other hand, work continuously regardless of patient compliance and cover a wide range of complex tooth movements. Which method is right varies by case; at our clinic, both options are explained openly alongside the examination findings, and the decision is made together with the patient.
